OCTOBER 2018

PHOENIX GALLERY

BRIGHTON PHOTO FRINGE

On the closing weekend of BPF, Krasimira Butseva and Lina Ivanova delivered a workshop open to photography students, artists and the public. Continuing the conversation started by the work in the duo’s exhibition ‘4UZHBINA’, the intervention took place in the gallery space, questioning what constitutes home and our sense of belonging.

Participants completed a writing and reading exercise which involved sharing of personal memories, building a sense of understanding and empathy between all involved, having shared common utopian feelings towards the idea of home. Personal objects and photographs brought forward by the participants became their props in the making of images using their phone cameras, a scanner and each other.

Images and text were sequenced and designed collectively by the group in the form of a zine which became part of the exhibition for the rest of the fringe.
